Even More Dragon Rampant 2nd

Thursday night (12th) I got together with Kevin to play another game of Dragon Rampant 2nd edition. It was my first game played in the Game Chamber's newest location.

The Scenario was number 2 "A Grisly Bloodfeud on the Plains of Doom"

I fielded my usual eclectic warband Gnolls (Bellicose foot; Cowards & Berserker), Kobolds (Ravenous Horde; Fast & Cowards), Humans (Heavy Riders, Light missiles, Heavy Foot with a spellcaster 1 and Scouts (Long range) and in their first appearance on any battlefield, "the Odd couple" an Ettin and a Red Slaad, as a unit of Greater Warbeasts.

Kevin's Warband was undead many of which were burrowing, and he had a spell caster and a summoner, unfortunately for him they were one figure (so he could only cast or summon each turn.

Visible on the bottom left is "the Odd Couple"

Souts had to go single file to make it throught the village.

Burrowers popping out, everywhere!

The game ended with 3 units on the table 2 of mine I of Kevin's both Warlords dead.

I achieved my goal of killing Kevin's Warlord and it didn't matter if mine died, I got 5 points plus 1 for a quest and minus 2 for failed quests for 4 points.

Kevin got 0 points for killing my leader, as his had to survive, got 3 points for quests completed but minus 1 for failed quests for 2 points.

More Dragon Rampant 2e

Got to play a game and a half of Dragon Rampant 2e this month.

We played it at the Game Chamber

The half game happened as we waited for our fourth to show up, Brandon and Kevin had not played before so it was more of teaching moment than a game, it was free for all.

Scenario 1, three players 30 point armies each.

The High point, for me at least, my gnolls (Berserk, Cowardly, Bellicose foot) charged and inflicted 15 hits, 10 hits and 5 more from Berserk.

We stopped as Abhi as arrived.

We rejigged our armies to 24 points and re played Scenario 1, with 2 sides, Abhi and Me vs. Kevin and Brandon.

My Wild charging Greater Warbeast has moved out of LOS of the healer and is feeling less invulnerable.

My Heavy Foot with Spellcaster 1

Abhi and I won, I would like to say it was superior gamesmanship. I can't truthfully say that, when we re-made our armies I heard we were doing 24 points, but they were all running 20 point armies!

That small detail aside I learned Heal Thee! is a great spell, my Heavy Foot which had a crimson mage, stayed near my Greater Warbeast constantly healing him, he started with 6 strength points and must have been healed for 13 Strength Points over the course of the game, which he ended with 3 still remaining, my healer also helped my Heavy Riders for 6 Strength Points, it ended the game with 5 sp remaining.

Painted in 2025

It was a gaming life lite year, my regular opponent's grandson had football on Saturdays and that is the only day that works for the both of us. When his grandson's team got eliminated and freed up his Saturday, his wife decided that now that hhis Saturdays were free the could now do the stuff they did on Sundays could now be done Saturdays.

Not a lot got painted the entire year.

Lack of motivation was the primary effect. Apparently I need a reason to paint stuff.

That said.

I was scheduled to run a Wild west game ion December. I felt I needed more Indians, as I wanted something different than a town shoot out. After much searching I found that Wargames Foundry would be the best mix with my Old Glory and Wargames Foundry Cowboys/Townsmen.

OMG they are expensive, 2 packs (16 Figures) was $97 Shipping included, they sent 2 gift figure s, a medieval archer (I guess since some of the apache had bows someone thought it was close enough) and duplicate Apache.

I got them done pretty quickly in November, but then as December started I got sick and stayed sick for 3 weeks and had to cancel.

I have been looking at other sets, mainly fantasy One Page rules being the main one but also Battle Cry. For some reason fantsy rules now the main ranged weapons seem to be guns, not bows, and there aint a lot of Gun armed troops that don't look like Conquistores, and I wanted some. Kit bashing seemd the best option. I had half a box of Oathmark Human Infantry and a box of Warlord games Scots Coventers, I got somewhere. I thought about using muskets from some of Napoleonic figures bits, but Pictured those a too Advanced for the way the weapons are described.

They look OK and I can also use them for 2nd ed. Dragon Rampant as one 12 figure unit and 1 six figure unit or threes 6 figure units.

The Sacred Mole of Ukkert

My buddy Cecil and I got together, for a game, for the first time in almost two years. We decided to play a 30 point game of Osprey Publishing's Dragon Rampant.
The Scenario was The Sacred Mole of Ukkert. My Brave soldiers had recovered the sacred mole's Carrying device and were taking it back to our homes.

The way was clear.

When suddenly Ukkertians appeared to our Left and in the far distance,

My Elite Riders un wisely wild charged the Dragon and my Heavy Riders charged the Ukkertian Heavy Riders in the valley.

Inspite of some truly spectaclar dice rolling from my Heavy Riders.

They hit on 3+

Neither of my calvalry units could pass a courage test and rolled badly enough to rout off the table. Leaving the Dragon and Ukkertian Heavy riders in play.

My cultists (Scouts) move behind the woods while my Heavy Foot, with attached wizardling, moved to intercept the Dragon, the Giant moving to the flank of the Feavy Foot. My archers (Light missiles) have so far failed every attempt to get them to move, its now turn five and every time they attempt to move they roll three I kid you not.

The Dragon and the Gaint fight. My giant coming out on top. The giant then stomps Cecil's Elite foot, literally. The Ukkertian Heavy riders charge my Heavy foot and win and once again I roll badly for courage only two casualties, but a snake eyes on my courage roll sees them rout off table. The Ukkertian Heavy riders then charge my Giant and kill him. My cultists shoot at the heavy riders but miss then my archers get to shoot and kill the last Heavy Riders.

It is 2:1 in my favour, my archers and scouts vs. Cecil's sharpshooter archers.

Cecil's archers slaughter my Scouts then later batter my archers, at which point I concede.

What I painted in August

Painted in August

August got off to a slow start, I had not touched a brush until the 12th.

I picked up 40 Bretonian (I think) archers at my FLGS's Bring and buy, not from any interest in Warhammer, but figuring I can use them for Dragon Rampant or any fantasy rules, and could even use them in a Historical setting. One thing I had not considered when got them, they are intended to go onto slotta bases of which I have none, so I just glued them to normal bases and will raise the basing material to cover the tabs.

I painted them for use as units of either 6 or 12.

I also want to run another game of Cowboys vs. Aliens at some point and whilst I have aliens I figured they needed some automatons to supplement them.

These are resins minis I bought off Etsy, one of the not minions snapped off at the ankles when I dropped it 3 inches while I was painting them, fortunately it was a clean break and 2 drops of super glue was sufficient.

Painted in July

What I got painted in July

I needed some mounted crusaders and as I had picked up a box of conquest games Medieval Knights.

They moved to the front of the line.

The Conquest games box contents comes in 2 flavours, one with 14 figures one of which on foot, my box was the 16 riders with 18 horses edition.

The figures wielding hand weapons had to canted to prevent the weapons attacking the mounts and as you can see a lot of the figures are looking up into the sky.

I need to get some decals for the shields, though my understanding is there was little heraldry on shields at this time.
